TUTORING › BLOCK BOOKING LAW TUTOR

BLOCK BOOKING LAW TUTOR

from £3,412.00

WHO NEEDS THIS SERVICE

Many students studying for the LLB, GDL, PGDL or MA Law (Conversion) CRASH COURSE and BAR Course have ongoing support needs and should be given priority. One way we can help is by offering block bookings of 25, 50, 75, or 100 hours.

Paying in advance for a block of hours from a law tutor (for example, 10 or 20 hours) is known as "block booking." It is often cheaper than paying hourly because of discounts on the hourly rate for each session, and it gives you a set time to meet your tutor, providing both cost savings and convenience.

However, this type of arrangement will require you to pay for all hours upfront, and you may also need to agree to stricter cancellation terms and conditions before receiving tutoring. Many law tutors on websites offer their services on an hourly basis; for example, City Law tutors do so.

WHY GET A BLOCK BOOKING (THE PROS)

The advantages of arranging a block booking of law tuition are similar for both students (parents) and tutors, mainly relating to commitments, continuity, and the economy of costs.

  1. Regular and Preferred Time-Slot

The student/customer receives guaranteed access to a regular, pre-determined time slot for their tuition, enabling a structured approach to learning and helping them develop continuously towards meeting their academic objectives.

  2. Increased Commitment

Paying for the tuition in bulk provides an increased incentive for the student/customer to commit to attending the scheduled tuition sessions, thereby reducing the risk of cancellation at short notice or "no shows" which could impede the development of the student's learning momentum.

  3. Economic Advantages

Most tutors will offer a discounted rate for purchasing a block of tuition (e.g., 25, 50, 75, 100 sessions), thereby creating greater long-term economic advantage over paying individually for each session.

  4. Simplified Administration

Block bookings also simplify payment administration, typically requiring a single payment in advance for several sessions rather than multiple payments on a transactional basis.

  5. Development of a Positive Relationship between Tutor and Student

A consistent relationship between tutor and student enables the two parties to establish a positive working relationship, which should enhance the effectiveness and comfort of the tuition sessions.

  6. PURPOSE

This product is intended for covering a law module in 5 days. The crash course service is for those seeking private tuition just before an exam. You can use this for an LLB, GDL, PGDL or MA Law Conversion crash course or subject-specific learning, exam technique, and familiarisation with content-focused exam-style question preparation.

THE CONS

We have spoken to law students for the last 20 years, and some have shared their experience. Some London-based agencies use the block booking to lock in a student which results in the following:

  1. Uncertainty of Tutor Fit

The unknown of whether a particular tutor is going to be right for you. The tutor's teaching method and approach will take some time to determine whether they meet your needs. Wasting money on a series of tutoring sessions, because you have been unable to identify a good match at an early stage, can occur.

  2. The inflexibility of block bookings

In many cases, when using a block booking system, you must commit to paying for a set amount of sessions before you begin receiving tutoring services. Using a block booking system limits your ability to cancel or change tutors, if your personal circumstances change (such as illness of the student, or scheduling conflicts).

  3. Identifying Your Needs

  4. You will likely not know how many sessions you will need before starting. You may book too many sessions than you need, or you may find that your learning goals or pace have changed since you booked your sessions.

  5. Reliability Issues with the Tutor

While less likely to happen, you may experience problems with a tutor's reliability (i.e. constant rescheduling or cancellation) during the course of your tutoring sessions, once the trial period is over. The inflexibility of a block booking arrangement will make it difficult for you to terminate your contract with the tutor, even if you are experiencing reliability issues.

  6. Cancellation Issues

Suppose you have to cancel a tutoring session at short notice due to circumstances beyond your control. In that case, you may still be responsible for paying for the cancelled session, under the terms of your block booking agreement, which can be frustrating.

  7. Price vs Quality

Some tutors will offer lower prices on their block package deals to get more students into their programs. But while price should be a consideration, the most important thing to consider is finding a high-quality tutor who can help you reach your educational goals.

HOW WE DIFFER

We genuinely reserve this product for students with whom we have built a long-term relationship. It is where ongoing help is required, and the students need the law tutors’ time beyond multiple sessions. This allows the tutor to engage fully and help meet the deadline and multiple assessments and exams.

HOW TO BOOK LAW EXAM CRASH COURSE

When you are making your online booking, provide the following information:

  1. Course: You can choose any course;

  2. University: Tell us which university you attend. We ask this so we can use the same law syllabus to tutor you, and

  3. Date and time: Please provide the dates and times you would like for your law tutoring session, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
