The European Union's regressing towards the rule of law is a rapidly developing area. The EU threatened to withhold billions of euros from Poland for pandemic recovery. But against the background of the conflict in Ukraine and after much debate, the European Commission approved Poland's recovery and resilience plan in June 2022 as part of the Next Generation EU initiative.
