Order
Order MEANING
A court order documents a judge's formal ruling or recommended course of action. A court order might be permanent (after the conclusion of a hearing) or temporary (which is in place until a final order can be made). A court order is legal and binding. Failing to comply with the court order is contempt of court, and a person may be sent to jail for contempt. A court's instructions on how to handle a matter are included in an order of directions. These must be adhered to. A court order is an official court document intended to provide parties with directions or information. It is essential to adhere to court orders.
