Lords Spiritual

Lords Spiritual meaning

The House of Lords, also known as the Upper House or the Second Chamber of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, is home to 26 bishops from the Church of England. They are known as the Lords Spiritual, and they take a full and active part in the life and work of the House. At the beginning of each daily meeting, they recite prayers to the members of the House. The Archbishop of Canterbury is responsible for appointing a Convenor of the Lords Spiritual who is responsible for coordinating the work of the Bishops in the Lords.
