World's most famous University Rankings Revealed

The results of the world's most famous university rankings have been revealed, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) coming out on top for the second year in a row. The QS World University Rankings 2023, compiled by global higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, ranks 1,000 of the world's best universities across 48 different subject areas.

The UK's University of Cambridge is ranked second, while Stanford University in the US takes third place.The rankings are based on four leading indicators - academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, and citations per faculty member.

MIT scored particularly highly for employer reputation, with 96.3% of employers surveyed saying they would hire an MIT graduate. The university is also ranked first for citations per faculty member, with an average of 99.9% citations per faculty member - more than double the world average.

Oxford is ranked first for academic reputation, with 100% of academics surveyed saying it is one of the world's best universities. The University is also ranked second for employer reputation, with 100% of employers saying they would hire an Oxford graduate.

Stanford takes third place overall witha score of 98.5% and is ranked first for faculty/student ratio, with a percentage of 100. The University is also ranked third for employer reputation, with 1000% of employers saying they would hire a Stanford graduate.

There were some of the highly respected UK institutions.

The University of Cambridge, ranked second beating Oxford which was in preceeding years in seventh place. Imperial College London is in 10 th place. While the UK still has more universities in the top 100 than any other country - 31 in total - this is down from 32 last year. The US has the second-highest number of top 100 universities, with 27.
