Jurisdiction

Jurisdiction meaning

The word "jurisdiction" refers to the authority or power that a court has to decide an issue that is in dispute between two parties. For instance, certain tribunals and courts are exclusively authorised to hear particular types of cases. Anything beyond that is not within their sphere of responsibility. It may also refer to the geographic area over which a given court has the ability to exercise its judicial power.
