Garnishee
garnishee meaning
A summons known as a garnishee is served by a claimant against a third party in order to seize money or other assets that are in the custody of the third party but legally belong to the defendant. It is also possible to refer to this kind of order as an attachment of Debt Order.
The Garnishee Order grants the ability to "freeze" a debtor's bank account to the Enforcement of Judgments Office. It is physically served on the bank, which is the garnishee, and it is conditional, which means that the garnishee has the chance to appear before the Enforcement of Judgments Office to offer reasons why the money should not be paid or why it cannot be paid.
