Silk

SILK MEANING

Silk is another term for a King's Counsel, this name is derived from the fabric that their robes are composed of. As a recognition of their superior abilities, only a select few senior barristers are granted the title of King's Counsel (often known as "silk"). They are often only taught in really weighty or intricate matters. The majority of senior judges first cut their teeth as KCs. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, the title of "Queen's Counsel" was given to those barristers who "took silk" (QC).
