Stevedore


Stevedore Meaning

Stevedore is person whose job it is to stow goods in a ship’s hold, and to discharge cargo. More specifically the activity of stevedoring may refer to either: (1) the loading of goods onto a vessel from an agreed-upon place of rest on a pier or lighter; or (2) the storing of cargo onboard a vessel. The process of breaking out and discharging cargo from any location inside the vessel to a predetermined point of rest either dockside or in a lighter.
